Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) engages with Belize’s Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries to Advance Human Rights Initiatives

Belmopan, Belize – The Honorable Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries Hon. Kareem Musa recently hosted a pivotal meeting with a delegation from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), led by Commissioner Dr. Jose Luis Caballero, Second Vice President, and Country Rapporteur to Belize. The meeting, attended by esteemed IACHR representatives Hilaire Sobers and Wendy Singh, alongside the CEO of the Ministry of Home Affairs, CEO Sharole Carr focused on Belize’s continued commitment to human rights and public security. This collaboration reinforces the Ministry’s commitment in aligning national policies with international human rights standards and enhancing regional partnerships.

The discussions centered on Belize’s strategic initiatives to protect and promote the rights of vulnerable populations, particularly women, the elderly, and marginalized communities. Both parties
underscored the importance of fostering an inclusive society that respects and safeguards the rights of all citizens.

Commissioner Dr. Jose Luis Caballero and the IACHR delegation affirmed their commitment to support Belize through legal and institutional capacity-building initiatives, aiming to strengthen frameworks that uphold human rights and ensure accountability.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries remains committed to working closely with international organizations, government agencies, and civil society to create a resilient, safe, and just Belize for all.
